The Bar Council have asked us to promote the following two events:

English-Cypriot Common Law Conference, 14 June 2024 at Columbia Plaza, Limassol, Cyprus

The conference, organised in collaboration with the Cyprus Bar Association, aims to delve into topics such as Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), international arbitration, the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) in the common law world, legal privilege, legal aid, and sanctions (though, please note some of these topics may be subject to change).

They are currently accepting speaker applications, open until next week. They would be grateful if you could kindly share this information with your colleagues and amongst members. You can find further details and the application form on their website: English-Cypriot Common Law Conference (barcouncil.org.uk)

American Bar Association Annual Meeting, July 31 – August 6 in Chicago, Illinois

Members of the Bar are attending the American Bar Association’s Annual Meeting this year. The Bar Council Chair, Samuel Townend KC, is attending and they may host a reception as part of the programme at the British Consulate in Chicago. They want to alert Circuits and SBAs to their presence at this event in case it is of interest for members to attend.

Should you or colleagues wish to be involved, please do get in touch with Haylie Page, who can connect you with the barrister leading on the planning of side activities.
