Today, 24 February 2023, marks a year since the start of the war in Ukraine.
The Bar Council’s International Committee have been working together with the community of Ukrainian advocates and lawyers who sought refuge in London (and further afield) on practical initiatives to help them find their feet. Some are interested in working in the legal sector and re-qualifying in the UK.
The Bar Council have therefore set up a “Day in Court for Ukrainian Lawyers” scheme pairing up a Ukrainian lawyer with a willing volunteer barrister to spend a day in court, or at least to spend a day with them showing the work a barrister would do (akin to a mini-pupillage). They are looking for volunteers from members of the Bar in the following practice areas: commercial, public and human rights, EU law, family and crime.
