Following a survey of the membership ALBA has decided to launch a mentorship scheme specifically for public law practitioners.

Mentorship helps barristers at all stages of their career: getting started at the Bar or in employed practice; career development; returning to practice or work after parental or care leave or long-term illness; issues of discrimination, stress, or lack of confidence; applying to government panels or for silk; applying for judicial office; and planning for retirement.

To start the scheme, ALBA is calling out to practitioners who would be interested and willing to be mentors. Please find the form here. We welcome applications by 10 January 2025. Forms should be emailed to: administrator@adminlaw.org.uk

Once the number of mentors is known, and in the areas of mentorship interests, we will then ask anyone who would like to have a mentor to fill in a form. That will be posted on the website in due course.

We would encourage all members – and not just those who have been practising for a long time – to consider mentorship.  It does not require a huge time commitment, and almost everyone who has done it has found it worthwhile and rewarding – and have usually learnt something themselves.
