This fundraising event is set in a mock Court of Appeal, where one of the Billy Goats Gruff is appealing against his conviction for manslaughter following an unfortunate encounter with a troll…

The moot court will bring together barristers, judges, law students, Friends of Cumberland Lodge and members of the public, in person or online – all are welcome to attend. It takes place in memory of Sir John Laws, who had a distinguished legal and academic career, and served as a Visitor at Cumberland Lodge from 2003 until his death in 2020.

Joining the Court of Appeal will be:

  • Her Honour Judge Anuja Dhir QC
  • The Rt Hon Lady Justice Whipple
  • The Rt Hon Sir David Bean

and barristers appearing include:

  • Kirsty Brimelow QC
  • Simon Myerson QC
  • Two representatives from Big Voice London, the social mobility charity, supporting students from non-fee paying schools to explore the UK legal system.
