The deadline for submitting views to the independent review of bullying and harassment, and sexual harassment, at the Bar is Friday 27 September.
The review is led by Harriet Harman KC. Harriet and her team have set out a number of questions about the nature of bullying and harassment at the Bar and potential remedies – you can choose to answer as many or as few of these questions as you like.
Everyone working in and alongside the Bar is invited to contribute.
The review team is also keen to hear about individual experiences – what happened, how was it handled by others, and what went right or wrong? However, they cannot take forward any individual cases as official reports or complaints (i.e. they will not pass any information to the BSB or any other authority).
Please be assured that, where requested, your submission will be treated in strict confidence by the review team. They recognise the sensitivity of this issue. You can also opt to respond anonymously using a dedicated section of Talk to Spot – the online platform.
The more information and evidence the review team can gather, the clearer the picture they can build of why these behaviours occur and how the systems for handling them can be improved. If you have seen reporting systems or interventions work well, that is also useful information for the review team.
The call for submissions is open until 27 September.
