Demystifying The Journey To Silk

When

5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Event Type

ALBA members are invited to join Demystifying The Journey To Silk at 5pm on Thursday 10th March, an informal forum run by four women at Matrix Chambers; Sarah Hannett and Lorna Skinner who were appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2021 and Zoe Leventhal and Sara Mansoori who will be appointed Queen’s Counsel this Spring.

A record number of women will be taking silk in 2022 with women making up 45% of new appointments in the latest round. These figures are encouraging but given that women accounted for less than 17% of all QCs prior to the latest appointment round, women continue to be severely underrepresented at Queen’s Counsel level.

Sarah, Zoe, Sara and Lorna will share first-hand experiences of their journey to silk with the aim of demystifying some of the rumours around the required level of experience, application process and the effects on your practice of taking silk. Taking place on a Chatham House basis, we want to create a safe space for women at any stage of their career to share and discuss the pitfalls, fears and practical tips about taking silk.
