I would like to encourage you to join the South Eastern Circuit if you currently practise in the south east – we cover an area as far west as Reading and as far south as Lewes. Whatever your specialism or level of seniority, and whether you are employed or self-employed, the Circuit has something to offer you.

As well as holding some wonderful social events (such as the Circuit Dinner on 3 October 2025), we also run educational events which are relevant to all areas of practice. In particular, I would like to draw your attention to the courses run in Florida
and at Keble, both of which are of the highest quality, and for both of which scholarships are available. We hold regular seminars in person and online and are always keen to hear about topics which would be of interest to practitioners.

For those considering applying for Silk, we have mentors who can support Circuit members on that journey, in addition to training sessions about the process itself. We are also active in lobbying for the interests of our members, often alongside your
SBA, the Bar Council and others. This might be in the form of a consultation response, in meetings with government or other statutory agencies or through conversations with senior judiciary made possible by our close relationships. We have an energetic D&I committee, currently looking at the Gender Pay Gap, and the Bar Messes run their own events locally.

Application forms can be found here, or you can email my PA if you have specific questions or comments. I am always eager to know what is on the minds of Circuit members and will try to improve things which are not working so well, or spread the
word about those which could become shared good practice.
