6:00 pm - 7:00 pm Introduction to Judicial Review Series

This three part series (held via Zoom) is an introductory course about the practice and procedure of judicial review. It is primarily intended for pupils, “junior junior” public law practitioners, or experienced barristers interested in developing a judicial review practice (although solicitors and law students are also welcome to attend).

Each webinar will be chaired by Alice Irving (Doughty Street) and led by experienced and knowledgeable public practitioners as set out below:

  • Tuesday 10 November 2026, 6-7pm – Preparing a claim for issue – Malcolm Birdling KC (Brick Court Chambers) and Maria Moodie (Garden Court Chambers)
  • Wednesday 18 November 2026, 6-7pm – The permission decision – Shu Shin Luh (Doughty Street Chambers) and Raphael Horgarth (11KBW)
  • Tuesday 24 November 2026, 6-7pm –  The substantive hearing – Jennifer Thelen (39 Essex Chambers) and Charles Bishop (Landmark Chambers)

These sessions are free but are for ALBA members and pupils only. You will be required to request a place to attend. If you are a pupil and not a member of ALBA, please indicate this clearly in the comments section of the booking form, otherwise your request may be rejected. Each confirmed booking will cover all three sessions. The Zoom link for each session will be sent out the evening prior to the respective webinar.

Please note that booking will close on Monday 9 November 2026 at 6pm to allow time to organize the Zoom links, so please request your place (whichever sessions you plan to attend) before then.

Please also note that attendees will be provided with a list of reading (approximately 1 to 1.5 hours per session) in advance. Attendees will not gain maximum benefit from the course unless they allow time to do this preparatory work.

Please book your place above.
